Using YouTube Videos in Lectures

YouTube offers many opportunities to enhance the learning experience in lectures. Many educational and case-study based videos can be particularly effective in providing supporting and additional content for use in class, as well as for non-class study. This paper focuses on three aspects of using YouTube:

  1. A practical demonstration of how to embed YouTube videos into PowerPoint and Moodle course pages
  2. An evaluation of student perceptions of the effectiveness of YouTube videos used in class (via an end-of-semester survey)
  3. An analysis of the author’s own YouTube channel and how lecturer’s can develop their own channels to support teaching
