The 19th Irish Learning Technology Association Conference, EdTech 2018, will be held in Carlow, Ireland on 31st of May and 1st of June 2018 and hosted by the Institute of Technology Carlow. On behalf of the Organising Committee I would like invite you to participate and look forward to welcoming you to Carlow this summer.
Abstract Submission Guidelines

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR ABSTRACT (5 steps)
1. Select a track for your submission
2. Select the presentation format for your submission
3. Enter the title and text for your abstract – please refer to the author guidelines below
4. Provide information for authors
5. Select a topic for your submission (maximum of 2 conference themes that best reflect your submission)
Tracks and Presentations
- Abstract: Please submit a 500 word abstract describing research (methodology, findings and results) on new or emergent ideas, technology or practice, and the benefits of this research to teaching and learning.
- Presentation: Your presentation slot will be 20 minutes. Q & A for all presenters of a session will take place together at the end the session. Abstracts will be published in printed book of abstracts & an electronic conference proceedings with ISBN.
- Abstract: Please submit a 300 word abstract describing an application or evaluation of technology-enhanced learning, and the benefits of this initiative to teaching and learning.
- Presentation: Your presentation slot will be 10 minutes. Q & A for all presenters of a session will take place together at the end the session. Abstracts will be published in printed book of abstracts & an electronic conference proceedings with ISBN
- Abstract: Please submit a 300-word abstract outlining the idea you used and the lessons / challenges for teaching, learning, training or assessment.
- Gasta (the Gaelic word for fast, clever, quick, smart, snappy) is a short concise presentation with slides for practitioners to present on an activity or research idea that they are implementing with students or their colleagues.
- Presentation: Your presentation slot will be 5 minutes. The presentation can come in a variety of forms that may involve flipped classroom, role-play, interactivity and new lecture styles & learning environments. We invite you to be creative with this one. Q & A for all presenters of a session will take place together at the end the session, where a panel of all speakers will get the chance to address questions from the audience.
The abstract should contain the following information: –
- Title – a maximum 40 words
- Authors – please include affiliations and designated presenters
- Track – specify a relevant track for your presentation e.g. Practitioner , Research, Gasta etc.
- Topic – select a maximum of two topics
- Keywords – provide a list of 3 – 5 key terms for indexing etc.
- Your Abstract – please check the maximum word count for your paper format – e.g. 500 words for Research abstract; 300 words for Practitioner or Gasta abstract.
- Citation and referencing- This should be produced to conform with the Harvard / APA (author/date) style.
- Style – Your abstract should be single-spaced text; 12-point sans serif font; and any illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end. Please use British English spelling and idiom throughout. Ensure that the manuscript has been fully spell-checked and proof-read for grammar, punctuation etc., before submission.
- Web Hyperlinks – If including links to resources external to the manuscript, please ensure these are embedded and associated with relevant link text using the appropriate native mechanism of the electronic format in use. In general, web addresses (URLs) should not be exposed in the normally visible text. Where references are available online, the title in the reference list should be hyperlinked as appropriate.
Should your abstract be accepted, you will be asked to confirm (by the 11th of May) any edits suggested by reviewers and final versions for publication within the printed book of Abstracts (with ISBN) as part of the conference pack and electronic conference proceedings.
Selected submissions, particularly to the research track, will be invited to submit a full article to the open access journal of ILTA: the Irish Journal of Technology Enhanced Learning.
